Screen Dance

As a filmmaker, my goal is to intentionally choreograph every aspect of my projects, from pitch to edit. The camera gives artists more control than ever before to speak with unique voices and perspectives. The world looks different from behind a camera lens, and I use that as an opportunity to experiment with the audience’s gaze in a brand new way.

traces

Traces considers the history of the ghost light, a theatrical convention steeped in lore, and comments on our own legacies and the traces we leave behind when we are gone.

Squawky Walk

Squawky Walk is an investigation exploring the manifestation of experiences that are disagreeable to the sense of hearing.

but do not stop

This dance film features eight women embodying a past moment of violence, engaging with the nuance of their personal narrative, and reclaiming empowerment with their own physicality. Featuring poetry by Luke Ryan, the film displays the journey from loss of power into a reimagined future.

“wrongful” was selected for the Flick Film Festival in December 2020

wrongful

This screen dance aims to tell the stories of wrongfully incarcerated individuals through text and embodied interpretations of individual experiences. The focus of the work is hope and reconciliation of the past self with future possibilities. I recognize that though we are telling these particular stories because they include moments of incarceration, each character in the piece experienced a past and has a future to look forward to. Each person has hopes, dreams, and goals. Within that recognition, we also realize that spending time behind bars has a significant impact on one’s life, and those experiences will color their futures. Wrongful is an exploration of the past, present, and future of incarcerated bodies through text, movement, and camera edits.

Conjunction

Filmed during quarantine, this film experiments with ideas of virtual connection and physical isolation. One dancer portrays four characters, connecting through sound and steps across a distance.

Rosas Remix

Magritte in Quarantine

In my first few weeks of isolation during the pandemic, I began experimenting with The Son of Man (1964) painting by René Magritte, and how the piece may be interpreted as a dance comedy. This microfilm is the result of that experiment.
